Course Description: This course provides an in-depth examination of the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, emphasizing their application in real-world brokerage activities. Participants will explore the ethical duties REALTORS® owe to clients, customers, the public, and one another, with practical guidance on avoiding ethical conflicts and managing risk. The course includes analysis of case studies, ethics complaints, enforcement procedures, and professional standards hearings to promote ethical decision-making, compliance, and professionalism in today’s real estate practice.

Instructor Bio: Lawrence (Larry) Ashwood is a licensed New Mexico real estate broker with more than three decades of experience in brokerage leadership, education, compliance, and professional standards. Licensed as a Real Estate Broker since 1994 and a Qualifying Broker since 1999, Mr. Ashwood has built a career centered on ethical practice, regulatory compliance, and informed representation.

He currently serves as Qualifying Broker of Ashwood Realty Services, LLC, where he leads all brokerage operations and specializes in education, consulting, counsel, and confidential representation. Prior to founding Ashwood Realty Services, he served as Qualifying Broker for Realty of New Mexico LC from 2015 to 2023 and previously founded and operated Home Locator Service (HLS), Inc., an exclusive buyer-representation brokerage, from 1999 to 2015. His professional background also includes qualifying broker leadership roles with JR Realty and Lane Properties, where he managed residential and commercial real estate services.

Mr. Ashwood has been an active member of the REALTOR® community since 1994, maintaining long-standing membership in the National Association of REALTORS®, New Mexico Association of REALTORS®, and the Albuquerque Association of REALTORS®. He has served on Professional Standards Committee for GAAR since 2002 and chaired that committee in 2011. He also serves on the New Mexico Association of REALTORS® Professional Standards Committee since 2021 and chaired that committee in 2024, reflecting his deep commitment to ethics enforcement and due process.

In addition to brokerage leadership, Mr. Ashwood is a Certified Real Estate Instructor, teaching New Mexico pre-licensing courses, Code of Ethics, broker business practices, ethics hearings, REALTOR® counseling, and multiple continuing education subjects. He also writes certified continuing education courses and serves as a REALTOR® ethics hearing consultant. Since 2022, Mr. Ashwood has also acted as an Expert Witness, drawing upon his extensive experience in residential resale, brokerage operations, professional standards, and regulatory compliance.
